Lukas : Heidi, is there something that links us ?

Heidi : More than you would think ! For when you asked me if I wanted to be the central theme of your new work of art I was not surprised at all.

Lukas : Really ? You are actually very different from my usual artistic concerns.

Heidi : I know very well you wondered how much you can compare yourself with me. You have been confronted with the usual prejudices people have about me, so that you were forced to think that I was your exact opposite; that my visual and cultural universe did not reflect Swiss life as you know it at all.

Lukas : That's exactly what I thought at first ! I always had a very idyllic and bucolic notion of you. But then I wondered about your development. I wanted to know what sort of life you are leading today and whether you are still living in the place where you were born. I wondered what had become of your grandfather and Klara and whether you were still in contact with Peter.

Heidi : I think I have been able to answer a few of your questions with my film. But now, you answer a question, Lukas: do I get you correctly that in most of your works entertainment is the central topic ?

Lukas : That's true. On closer scrutiny my works even make use of entertainment. Would you like to talk about 'Gita-o-hiku' for instance ?

Heidi : That work, like all the ones before it, takes play in its different forms as its subject. 'Gita-o-hiku' makes me think of a kind of cheap home video. In your living room, the couches turn into transient platforms on which you confront someone in a duel. In parallel, the installation offers itself to the visitor as a pedestal that reflects on the video. Could this represent an invitation ?

Lukas : Yes, in a way. It represents the transformation of an image into a concrete object. This object represents the realisation of a perfectly standardised pleasure in trash. Thank you Heidi for illuminating my work, but you still have not answered my first question: is there something that links us ?

Heidi : It's very simple. You have turned me into your mirror. I am a Swiss icon and you are a Swiss artist, we are both using entertainment for our work. In this way we are linked by the aim of creating emotions. I really believe that a certain culture of entertainment exists, so let us both work on that !
